efficient and sustainable environment.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/savemax.in\/blogs\/embracing-the-era-of-smart-cities-revolutionizing-urban-living-in-india\/\">Smart Cities Mission<\/a>, launched by the Government of India in June 2015, seeks to revamp cities by incorporating advanced technologies into <a id=\"Objectives\"><\/span>Objectives<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4><p>The Smart Cities Mission aims to cultivate cities that offer essential infrastructure, a high quality of life for residents, a clean and sustainable environment, and the implementation of innovative solutions.<\/p><p>With urban areas projected to accommodate 40% of India&#8217;s population and contribute 75% of the country&#8217;s GDP by 2030, up from the current 31% and 63% respectively (as per Census 2011), there is a pressing need for the comprehensive development of urban infrastructure.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Approach\"><\/span>Approach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4><p>Smart cities prioritize addressing their most critical needs and maximizing opportunities to enhance quality of life.<\/p><p>They utilize a variety of strategies, including digital and information technologies, best practices in urban planning, public-private partnerships, and policy adjustments. The mission&#8217;s strategy includes:<\/p><p><strong>Pan-City Initiative:<\/strong> Implementation of at least one smart solution across the entire city.<\/p><p><strong>Area-Based Development: <\/strong>Incorporating three models: retrofitting, redevelopment, and greenfield development.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Core_Infrastructure_Elements\"><\/span>Core Infrastructure Elements<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3><p><strong>The mission focuses on creating cities that urban population and the number of statutory towns for each state and union territory (UT).<\/p><p>The mission&#8217;s goal is to incorporate 100 cities over five years (FY2015-16 to FY2019-20), with the possibility of continuation based on an evaluation by the Ministry of Urban Development (<a href=\"https:\/\/mohua.gov.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MoUD<\/a>).<\/p><p>After two years, the mission&#8217;s performance and distribution will be reviewed, potentially leading to the reallocation of cities based on progress.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Distribution_of_Smart_Cities\"><\/span>Distribution of Smart Cities<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3><p>The allocation of 100 Smart Cities among the states and UTs is based on a fair criterion.<\/p><p>The formula assigns equal weightage (50:50) to the urban population of the state\/UT and the number of statutory towns in the state\/UT.<\/p><p>Each state\/UT is guaranteed at least one smart city, and the distribution is subject to review and adjustment based on performance.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\"
